Ode to Fall

Oh how I love fall!  I love everything about!  The cool temps!  The clothes!  The food - soups!  The colors and scenery!  Halloween!  Thanksgiving.  I love everything about it!!!  I want to dive into a pumpkin latte and live there!  One of our favorite movies is "You've Got Mail".  The Tom Hanks character emails the Meg Ryan character that he would give her a bouquet of freshly sharpened pencils if he knew who she was.  My heart gets giddy every time I hear it!!!  Doesn't fall really start with the purchase of school supplies???  And then there is college football (hopefully)!!!  I can't stand it!

Next week, we are looking at these temps! I can't wait!!!

The cool temps!!!  I am a fluffy girl.  We are on a fluffy family.  We hate hot weather.  We lived in an area for 6 years that had extremely hot summers and the falls weren't much better.  Fifteen months ago, we moved to a new state that has the most gorgeous weather.  We just extended the patio so that we can enjoy this beautiful weather even more!!!  I can't wait until a need a warm, comfy sweater to sit out there.  I am hoping that this year that the cooler temperatures will make the mask wearing a little more comfortable.

Shameless plug for my business Campfire Boutique!  But in all seriousness, my favorite outfit is a pair of jeans, tee, and a flannel.

The clothes!  Again, I am a fluffy girl.  Sweatshirts/sweaters and jeans are the great equalizer!  The fluffy girls no longer stick out in their shorts.  Forget tank top and swimsuit season!  Lol!  Just kidding.  I love a good pair of shorts as much as anyone, but I have always loved jeans.  That is what I am most comfortable wearing.  I love comfy sweaters and long sleeves.  I love layering.  I love cozy clothes!

It's what's for dinner!

Spicy Thai Chicken Noodle Soup

Shrimp Thai soup.  Hands down my favorite.  So yummy!!!  Evidently, we have a thing for Thai soups!

The food!  I love soup.  I could eat soup everyday for the rest of my life and die happy.  Again, it makes you feel cozy!  Chili, Oyster Stew, Spicy Thai Chicken Noodle, Sausage Potato Spinach, Split Pea, Beef Stew, Thai Shrimp, Sopa Del Sol, etc.  I love them all.  Soup is my comfort food!  Then, there is all things pumpkin.  Yes, Martha Stewart, I am a basic b$#@%!  I am totally ok with that.  I haven't made it to Starbucks yet for my first pumpkin latte.  A glass of red wine is equally gratifying on a cold fall evening.  Eat, drink, workout!  That is my motto for fall!

The highway that runs through our town.  The photo doesn't do the vivid colors justice.

A smaller tree in the backyard.

This amazing tree is in my backyard.  It is huge.  It is so beautiful when it changes.

The colors and the scenery!  I love driving around looking at the trees changing colors.  When the kids were very young, we lived in New Jersey.  We used to joke that we had Norman Rockwell Halloweens (anyone else old enough to remember Norman Rockwell???).  They were perfect.  Where we live right now, we have amazing color changes.  We even have a huge ash tree in the backyard that turns a beautiful orange-red.  I love the falling leaves.  I love raking them.  Macy and I love to walk around the pond in our neighborhood.  It is surrounded by beautiful trees.  I love a good fire whether in an indoor fireplace or outside on the patio.  Again, it's super cozy!

My black and white mantle this year.  Jared's favorite of all the ones we had (he helped pick out the garland).

Entry Decor

The school character parade.

My wee ones!  Jake was 5 and Macy was 2.

Jake was OBSESSED with Thomas the Tank Engine while Macy was OBSESSED with Disney Princesses.  I have no feelings about Napoleon Dynamite other than it was funny and we had the costume!

This was the photo I used for Macy's 2nd birthday party invitation.  She is our pumpkin princess.

We always had an adult Halloween party with some of our friends in KC.  This particular year, Jared and I went as Edith and Archie Bunker.

Halloween!  We love Halloween.  As long as I can remember, I loved dressing up and pretending to be someone or something else.  My husband and I both did theater when we were in school.  I think Halloween has been a continuation of that for us.  We don't dress up every year, but when we do, it is always fun.  Plus, there is candy!!!  I am not a big candy person 364 days out of the year, but seriously, is there a better smell than the inside of one of those cheesy, trick-or-treat, plastic pumpkins after it has been filled with candy???  It is the smell of my childhood.  Decorating the home with fall decor warms my heart.  Last weekend I began.  I had no plan just started carrying things up from the basement.  I had my music on running around the house sing, dancing, decorating.  I was in my happy place.  My son, who was the only one home at the time, watched in abject horror.  Heaven forbid a parent jam out and have a little fun.

When we lived in NJ, we rarely got the chance to go home for the holidays.  Jared cooked this amazing beast one year for Thanksgiving. It looks well done, but I promise it was perfect!

Thanksgiving!  An entire holiday devoted entirely to a meal!  Well, not quite!  It is a holiday devoted entirely to giving thanks, thanks that the pilgrims survived the harsh winter of their new environment.  Before we eat, every year we go around the table and list the things for which we are thankful.  We should do it everyday.  I try but I know I fall short.  Sometimes, in the month of November we do the Thankful challenge on Facebook.  Everyday for 30 days, you post something/someone for which you are thankful.  It is a little cheesy but is a nice reminder to stop and appreciated the joy around us.

Look at my little fall cuties! Macy would have been 2 and Jake was 5. Sweet memories.
My sweet fall babies!  Macy was 2 and Jake was 5.  What a special memory from New Jersey.

Fall is a time of cooling temperatures and warming feelings.  I hope that this blog makes you a little more excited about fall even with COVID hanging over our heads waiting to rain on all of our parades.
