I am ProChoice!
This can't be!!! The Jesus freak, Bible thumper, rightwing wacko, anti-feminist (these are just a few of the names people have called me over the years - I wear the labels with absolute pride) cannot be ProChoice! Oh, but I am! I believe that a woman should have the complete control over body!
I just think that that choice takes place long before conception occurs which I believe is when life begins (don't bother telling me when the ProChoice doctors say when life begins - I listen to God on this one - a proud Jesus freak, remember?)! Somewhere along the way, our society has confused needs and wants. Sexual gratification is not a need. It is a want. If you do want to have sex, there are a multitude of ways of doing it so that a life is not conceived (of course, as your resident Bible thumper, I would prefer that it occurs in a marriage)! Women have the control to abstain or use birth control! Choice! By the time we have gotten to conception, the choice becomes whether to keep it or put it up for adoption.
In 2015, 906,000 abortions occurred in the U.S. Approximately, half of those babies were female. That is 453,000 women who will never have a choice. They don't have the choice of being moms or not to be moms. They can't choose to be a teacher, doctor, astronaut, deaconess, stay-at-home mom, etc. They have no choice at all. She never gets to have control over her body.
Quote is from the Presidential Debate in Baltimore, MD on September 21, 1980. What good right-wing wacko wouldn't feature Ronald Reagan? |
I for one would like my daughter to not think that her vagina is her most important body part (and for this, I am the anti-feminist).
I want it to be her brain! I want her to find gratification in her studies, her work, her family, her friends, but most of all, God. She is so much more than a vagina. She is a person above being female. And above all else, she is a child of God before she is my child. It is my responsibility to protect her and teach her her worth. She is a miracle. She is my gift from God. She is not a burden, an imposition, an inconvenience, a mistake, etc. She is a child of God. She is loved.
Our bodies are wonderful machines. They are quite capable of doing many things. Although we can do many things, doesn't mean that we should or that they should be legal. For example, just because my neighbor can be naked, doesn't mean I want him exposing himself to my kids! A woman can perform multiple sex acts doesn't mean she should be a prostitute. Just because women can have an abortion doesn't mean she should!

It isn't always about us. Sometimes it about those who need us the most! Our choices are not more important than our children. I have a right under the 1st amendment to express my opinion. You are entitled to your opinion. I have been called nearly every name by those on the other side of the argument. I don't answer to those that disagree. I answer only to God on this topic. I am happy to agree to disagree with you. I will not call you names or shame you. I will love you regardless of our different viewpoints.
For Lutherans, this would be the 5th. |
In this blog, I have paraphrased from "ProLife Answeres to ProChoice Arguments" by Randy Alcorn, specifically section 11. It is a great read! I also want to thank those that gave me ideas, different view ways of thinking about this topic, and literature. I might not have used them in this blog, but that doesn't mean that I disagreed with them.
Also, I got my Abortion facts from:

I would like to leave you with this amazing speech from the ProLife March 2017.
